What is it like to be an intern at a global marketing agency?
Posted by danielle.gamage | 26 July
Here at TLC Marketing we love taking on university students as part of their placement year. We see a real benefit in their fresh outlook and supporting them to become young marketing professionals. The TLC family extends as interns are welcomed with real marketing responsibilities. They are an important part of them team from the outset.
So after a year of exciting briefs, communications and projects, it is time for our wonderful Zoe Fields to return back to university to complete her final year. Zoe was a Bournemouth University Marketing and Communications intern when she came to TLC, but left as a skilled Account Executive in our dedicated Client services department. We're sad to see Zoe go, but can take pride in how she has grown as a marketing professional. As first semester approaches, we sat down with Zoe and reflected on a year with TLC Marketing.
What attracted you to TLC Marketing?
The diverse range of brands that TLC Marketing worked with, this paired with the fact that it is a global marketing agency with a London base. However, what made me want to work here even more was after the interview, where I instantly felt welcomed.
What brands have you worked with?
I have worked with such a range of brands over the year, such as, Brioche, Kobo, Bosch, Bupa, Elastoplast, The AA, Yakult, Continental, Energizer, More th>n, NCS, RCI, Henkel, Dr Martens, Post Office and Siemens.
How has TLC developed your career path?
TLC has definitely developed my career path and widened my skill set. I always knew I wanted to work at an agency, however I didn’t really see myself in any particular department and the idea of working at a prestigious marketing agency in London seemed particularly intimidating. However, over the past year working within the Client Services team I really feel as if I have found my niche.
What has been your highlight?
The highlight of working at TLC over the past year has to be that I truly feel like a valued member of a team. I’ve been so lucky to have been given such responsibility from the outset. I feel as if I have learned from the best.
What have you enjoyed the most?
The thing I love the most about TLC has got to be the people, work culture, and the atmosphere. To be surrounded by such a fun, dynamic and supportive group has been amazing and they have all become incredible friends.
Have you had any personal fist pump moments, and if so what are they?
I have had a lot of fist pump moments. One, was being involved in turning around a large campaign in a very short period of time. I worked extremely closely with one other member of my team and together we were able to produce the campaign successfully and within the tight deadline. I remember feeling so nervous and completely out of my depth, but mt colleagues were so supportive and and encouraging it really helped me build confidence in my work. Looking back on that now, I think that was a major turning point in feeling like a trusted member of the team.
What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
I think my biggest challenge has got to be confidence. At the beginning of my placement the idea of speaking to clients or voicing my opinion was so incredibly daunting. Being able to learn so much and receiving the encouragement and support I have been given, has really helped me grow.
